Slab leak repair cost by method
Angi puts the national average slab leak repair at about $2,280 including leak detection, with most jobs between $630 and $4,400. The spread comes from the repair method, where the leak is and what sits on top of it.
| Repair method | Installed price | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Spot repair through the slab | $500–$3,000 | Breaks the slab directly above the leak |
| Reroute pipes through walls or attic | $600–$7,000 | Abandons the under-slab line |
| Tunnel under the slab | $1,500–$6,000 | Digs from outside, no interior floor damage |
| Epoxy pipe lining | $1,000–$6,000 | Coats the inside of the pipe; not always possible |
| Whole-home repipe | $4,500–$15,000 | Replaces all the under-slab plumbing |
Detection comes first
Finding the leak costs $150–$600, and one guide says detection should always precede any repair. Many companies credit the detection fee toward the repair, so ask before you book.
Which method fits?
- Spot repair breaks through the slab right above the leak, fixes the pipe and patches the concrete. It's the cheapest when the leak is accessible, but a leak under tile, marble or hardwood costs more to restore.
- Rerouting runs new lines through walls or the attic and abandons the leaking under-slab pipe, so no concrete is broken.
- Tunneling digs under the foundation from the outside to reach the pipe without breaking through the floor.
- Epoxy lining creates a new pipe inside the damaged one. It isn't possible for every pipe, and sources disagree on its price.
- A whole-home repipe replaces all the under-slab plumbing, which ends the risk of another under-slab leak. It's the most expensive option and usually a choice when the pipes are failing throughout.
Where the money goes
Labor makes up most of a slab leak bill. Materials for most repairs cost under $100, so the cost is mostly the time spent locating the leak, cutting into the concrete, fixing the pipe and repairing the slab. Leaks under finished floors or cabinets need more demolition than leaks in a utility area. Foundation and floor restoration after a long-running leak adds to the total, and no guide gives a general price for it, so ask for it as its own line item.
Questions to ask before you hire
- Has the leak been pinpointed, and is the detection fee credited toward the repair?
- Why are you recommending this method over the others?
- How will the floor, tile or cabinets be restored, and is that in the price?
- What will you do about the other pipes of the same age and material?
- What does the warranty cover?

The labor part of the price is scaled by the average wage for the relevant trade in your state, using Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Materials and equipment are not adjusted.
Why might a contractor's quote differ from this estimate?
A quote reflects your specific scope, access, local demand and what the contractor includes. Ask for line items rather than a single total so you can compare bids on the same basis.
