Cabinet refacing cost per linear foot

Installed price per linear foot of cabinets, captured 2026-10-09
Door materialInstalled priceGood to know
Laminate or thermofoil$50–$125The lowest price; a plastic laminate or thermofoil surface
Wood veneer$100–$250A thin layer of real wood over the existing boxes
Solid wood doors$200–$500New solid wood doors and drawer fronts

HomeGuide, Angi and Forbes Home agree closely on every material. Angi puts the average refacing project at $7,236. Bob Vila's older overall average of $7,220 is attributed to Angi and HomeAdvisor, and its total for high-quality veneer, $2,500 to $6,500, is in line with ours.

What changes the price

  • Door material. Solid wood costs several times as much per linear foot as laminate.
  • Length of the run. The total is the per-foot price times the linear feet of cabinets.
  • Labor. Labor is 50% to 70% of the cost, so wages in your area matter.
  • Extras. Crown molding, lighting and new hardware add to the total.
  • Scope. Replacing only the doors and drawer fronts is a different, cheaper job.
  • Where you live. The calculator adjusts the labor share for your state's carpenter wages.

Extras to expect

On top of the refacing
ItemTypical costWhen it applies
Crown molding$210–$570For a finished top edge
Under-cabinet light fixture$200–$350 eachAdd once for each light

Refacing keeps your existing boxes. If they are damaged, replacing may make more sense; see cabinet installation cost, and for a full renovation kitchen remodel cost. New counters and floors are priced on flooring installation cost.

Questions to ask before you hire

  • What material and finish are the doors, drawer fronts and exposed sides?
  • Does the price include hardware, crown molding and removal of the old doors?
  • Are the cabinet boxes in good enough shape to reface?
  • How long will the kitchen be out of use?
  • What does the warranty cover?

Methodology and sources

We price each door material per linear foot from three published guides, take the middle of their lows, midpoints and highs, and adjust the labor share for your state's wages. Bob Vila is used as an independent cross-check. Read how we estimate costs.
