Gutter cleaning cost per linear foot by house height

Price per linear foot of gutter, captured 2026-10-09
Height of the houseInstalled priceGood to know
One-story house$0.50–$1.50Ladder work from the ground
Two-story house$0.75–$2.50Longer ladders and more setup time
Three-story house$1.25–$3.20The highest rates; some crews use lifts or roof access

All three guides price the job by the linear foot and by the height of the house. They agree on the shape, with each extra story adding to the rate, and differ on the level: Fixr's rates for two and three stories run well above Angi's. The calculator starts at 150 feet of gutter, which prices out at $80–$230 for one story, $110–$380 for two stories and $190–$480 for three.

What changes the price

  • Height of the house. This sets the per-foot rate more than anything else.
  • Length of gutter. The total is the rate times the linear feet of gutter on the house.
  • Roof pitch. Angi adds 15% for a steep roof.
  • Season. Angi says peak-season bookings add 10% to 50%. That is not in the calculator.
  • Clogged downspouts. Clearing them is usually an extra charge.
  • Gutter guards. Guards that have to come off first add a charge.
  • Where you live. The calculator adjusts the labor share for your state's construction laborer wages.

Extras to expect

On top of the cleaning
ItemTypical costWhen it applies
Clearing clogged downspouts$50–$150When water backs up or the downspouts are packed with debris
Removing gutter guards$30–$80When guards cover the gutters

Roof cleaning and gutter repair are separate jobs. HomeGuide lists roof cleaning at $250 to $600 and gutter repair at $100 to $450, and Fixr prices cleaning the gutters and roof together at $650 to $1,100. Gutters that are sagging or leaking may need gutter replacement, and gutter guards cut down on cleaning. For roof problems see roof repair cost.

Questions to ask before you hire

  • Is the price per linear foot or a flat fee for the house?
  • Does it include flushing the downspouts and hauling away the debris?
  • Is there a surcharge for a steep roof or a busy season?
  • Do you remove and reinstall gutter guards, and what does that cost?
  • Are you insured for ladder work on a house this height?

Methodology and sources

We price each house height per linear foot from three published guides, take the middle of their lows, midpoints and highs, and adjust the labor share for your state's wages. Forbes Home is used as an independent cross-check. Read how we estimate costs.
