Estimates, not quotes
Every price on FixItCost is an estimate built from published sources: retail listings, cost guides, contractor price lists and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data. Real prices depend on your home, local building codes, permit fees, material availability, access, the season and the contractor you hire. Your quote can be higher or lower than our range.
Not professional advice
Our content is general information. It is not engineering, legal, financial, tax or safety advice, and it doesn't replace an on-site inspection. For structural problems, gas, electrical and refrigerant work, and anything involving safety, hire a licensed professional and follow local codes. Garage door springs, gas lines and electrical panels in particular can cause serious injury if handled incorrectly.
How our pages are reviewed
Each page is checked by our editors against the sources listed on it, and each calculator's typical result is tested against independently published price ranges. Unless a page names a licensed reviewer, it has not been reviewed by a licensed tradesperson. Our full method is on How we estimate costs.
Tax credits and rebates
We describe federal credits and rebates as we understand them on the date shown on each page. Rules change; confirm with the IRS, your utility or a tax professional before relying on any credit.
Advertising
This site is supported by ads served by Google. Advertisers don't pay us to be mentioned, and ads don't influence our estimates. Product names in our price tables are there because we used their listed prices as sources, not because we recommend them.
Corrections
If a price looks wrong for your area or a source has changed, email hello@fixitcost.com. We review every report and record corrections in the changelog at the bottom of the affected page.
