Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information is collected when you use FixItCost (fixitcost.com), who collects it, and the choices you have. We've kept it specific to how this site actually works.

The short version

• You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name, address or phone number.
• Our calculators run in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent to or stored on our servers.
• We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used and how the site performs. It uses cookies and does not tell us who you are.
• The site shows ads from Google. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure those ads, as described below.
• If you email us, we see your email address and message and use them only to reply.

Information collected automatically

Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data needed to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Calculator inputs. When you use a calculator, your choices (for example, state and material) may appear in the page address so you can bookmark or share an estimate. This stays in your browser unless you share the link. Please don't enter personal information into calculator fields; none of them ask for it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages and calculators are used, how visitors arrive (for example, from a search engine) and whether pages load properly. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and referring site. We don't use it to identify individual visitors, and we don't send it the numbers you enter into calculators.

Google processes this data under its own policies; see How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.

Advertising and cookies

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

• You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, you'll still see ads, but they may be less relevant.

Where the law requires it, visitors are shown a consent or opt-out message provided through Google's consent tools before personalized ads are used.

Your privacy rights in the United States

Residents of some states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others, have rights under state privacy laws, which may include the right to know, access, delete and correct personal information and to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.

We don't sell personal information for money. Showing personalized Google ads may count as "sharing" or targeted advertising under some of these laws. To opt out, use the privacy choices link or message shown on the site where available, or the Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info links above.

To make any other request, email hello@fixitcost.com. Because we don't collect names or accounts, in most cases the only personal information we hold about you is what you send us by email.

Visitors outside the United States

This site is written for U.S. homeowners. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you make a choice in the consent message shown on the site.

Children

This site is intended for adults planning home projects. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Links to other sites

Our pages link to the sources behind our estimates, such as retailers, cost guides and government data. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
