Dryer vent cleaning cost by vent location

Price per vent for a standard cleaning, captured 2026-10-09
Where the vent exitsInstalled priceGood to know
Basement or first-floor vent$80–$175The easiest vents to reach
Second-floor vent$110–$200Ladder work
Roof vent$150–$300Roof access takes the most time

Angi and HomeGuide publish identical ranges by location, and Fixr's run slightly higher, so the three guides agree closely. Length matters too: Fixr says contractors clean about 15 feet per hour, or $6 to $11 per foot, and that more bends add cost. Thumbtack puts the national average at $129 and Bob Vila at $139.

What changes the price

  • Where the vent exits. Ground-level vents cost least, second-floor vents more and roof vents most.
  • Length and bends. A longer or twistier run takes longer to clean.
  • Blockages. A bird nest or pests in the vent are billed as an extra.
  • Bundling. Some HVAC companies bundle the cleaning with duct cleaning for a discount or free of charge.
  • Repairs. A crushed or badly routed vent may need rerouting or a new vent.
  • Where you live. The calculator adjusts the labor share for your state's HVAC technician wages.

Extras to expect

On top of the cleaning
ItemTypical costWhen it applies
Bird nest or pest removal$120–$250A blocked vent hood
Bird or pest guard$30–$100To keep nests out afterward
Vent inspection$30–$60Often waived with a cleaning
Rerouting or a new vent$200–$500A vent that is too long or crushed
Lint alert monitor$150–$250If you want a warning when the vent clogs

If you are cleaning the whole duct system too, see air duct cleaning cost. A dryer that has stopped heating may need appliance repair instead.

Questions to ask before you hire

  • Is the price per vent, and does it cover the full run to the outside?
  • Is the inspection free with the cleaning?
  • What do you charge to remove a nest or pests?
  • Will you clean the dryer cabinet or only the vent?
  • Is there a discount for cleaning the ducts at the same visit?

Methodology and sources

We price each vent location from three published guides, take the middle of their lows, midpoints and highs, and adjust the labor share for your state's wages. Thumbtack and Bob Vila are used as independent cross-checks. Read how we estimate costs.

What each source reports

Why might a contractor's quote differ from this estimate?

A quote reflects your specific scope, access, local demand and what the contractor includes. Ask for line items rather than a single total so you can compare bids on the same basis.
