Cabinet installation cost per linear foot
| Cabinet type | Installed price | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Stock cabinets | $100–$300 | Pre-built in standard sizes; the lowest-priced option |
| Semi-custom cabinets | $150–$650 | More sizes and finishes; the widest range of prices |
| Custom cabinets | $500–$1,200 | Built to your measurements and specifications |
These are installed prices per linear foot of cabinets, with the labor share adjusted for your state. Set the length of your cabinet run in the calculator for the project total. Removing the old cabinets, crown molding and wall repairs are separate lines because they only apply to some kitchens.
What changes the price
The cabinet type drives most of the cost, and semi-custom has the widest range because it covers everything from basic upgrades to near-custom lines. Wood species, door style, soft-close hardware and the number of drawers all move the price within a type. Frameless cabinets, ceiling-height uppers and awkward corners take the installer longer, and none of the guides we read puts a single dollar figure on them, so ask for these as separate lines.
Extra costs to expect
| Item | Typical cost | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Remove and haul away old cabinets | $350–$1,000 | Replacing an existing kitchen |
| Crown molding | $2–$3 per linear ft | If you want molding on the uppers |
| Drywall patching | $300–$900 | If walls are opened or damaged |
Countertops, backsplash, plumbing and electrical changes are not included in cabinet pricing. Ask whether the quote covers delivery, hardware and an in-home measurement.
Questions to ask before you hire
- Is the price per linear foot for cabinets and installation together?
- Does it include removing and disposing of the old cabinets?
- Who measures the room, and what happens if the cabinets do not fit?
- Are hardware, filler strips and trim included?
- How long will the kitchen be out of use?

How much does cabinet installation cost?
A typical job (25 ft of semi-custom cabinets) comes to about $8,750 nationally, within a range of $3,750 to $16,250. Use the calculator above to adjust for your state, the options you choose and any extras.
Where do these prices come from?
They come from 3 published cost pages from 3 publishers, last checked Oct 8, 2026. We report what those pages say and do not invent figures; the table above shows each source.
How does my state change the estimate?
The labor part of the price is scaled by the average wage for the relevant trade in your state, using Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Materials and equipment are not adjusted.
Why might a contractor's quote differ from this estimate?
A quote reflects your specific scope, access, local demand and what the contractor includes. Ask for line items rather than a single total so you can compare bids on the same basis.
